What a breath of fresh spring air!

Spring time is in full motion over here with warm weather and beautiful flowers! I really like how Korea has all four seasons because being able to see the change of colors is so amazing! It really brightens my mood and a lot of other people’s moods. I wore a flowery scarf and everyone i talked to had a smile on their face!! Flower Power!! haha sorry for the cheesy-ness... but it’s so true! Give someone a flower and their day is 10 times better! Anyways, along with that, last week I expressed how hard it was that people just didn’t want any part of us, but this week something changed, whether it is the weather or the blessings of thoughtful prayers of others and guidance of our loving Heavenly Father, everyone I talked to this week was absolutely kind and just wonderful! What a breath of fresh spring air!  What an answer to my prayers and evidence that Heavenly Father cares about me. He knew how worn out I was and put good people in my path to help me rejuvenate and keep spreading this wonderful message. I met this one lady on the street yesterday and she was Korean but lived in Spain and Brazil and knew Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese and a little bit of English and of course Korean. It was awwesome! She was speaking Korean with a little bit of a Spanish accent and it took me back to California and all the Spanish being spoken there! It was so fun talking to her. She was a blessing to me that day, and asking if the people were being kind to me and making sure I have people to help me learn the language and friends. Heavenly Father was definitely working through her in order to help me and lift me up. Missionaries obviously work hard to support others, but we also need a little lifting every once in a while too! I think I find a lot of my spiritual support through the scriptures and the Liahona and writings of the prophets, and the kind people that are willing to listen to us help lift my smile just a little higher! All in all, I love the Spring!

This week we also went to the temple and that was a really good experience, especially because I spiritually prepared and felt a peace before going in. And after wards I was happier and jollier.. haha. This has inspired me to spiritually prepare for general conference and also Easter. Both two special occasions that I don’t want to take for granted. Two big events where I can come closer to the Lord, and I can come just a little closer if I spiritually prepare. I was able to spiritually prepare last Easter when I went to Brother Andre's institute class in the morning back home. It made Easter so much more special and it strengthened and changed my testimony. I’m so grateful for this Easter/Spring season and I’m loving everything about it!

Loveessssss,

I’m the chocolate monster!

Family!!!

Autum Griffen sent Ricey a B-day package from Japan
Thank you for everything!! I got my birthday package! Holy cow it was a chocolate monster!! haha In the MTC I was the cookie monster, and now I’m the chocolate monster! Haha. All I can think of is SpongeBob and the screaming man screaming Chocolate!!!!!!! hahaha sorry for the tangent.

Onward. This week, was kind of slow, we have our investigator that is trying to find the truth. I have realized that the more I prepare a lesson, the worse I am.. I don’t know why that is happening. Maybe because when I don’t over prepare, when I teach I rely on the spirit to teach and not "me". It reminds me every time when I give a choppy lesson that I need to seek help and not rely on myself. It is a humbling experience, but also kind of weird, because they always say the more you prepare the better you are.. so maybe this is a special situation.....

This morning in my personal study, I was studying in Jacob chapter 7 of the Book of Mormon and it talks about "not my will but thy will" and I decided to study that out in the bible where in Luke when Christ was suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane and he said remove this cup from me, but let it be thy will. Even if we are going through hard times and we pray about it and ask Heavenly father to help fix our problems, we also have to be willing to trust God and let these things happen because it may be the will of our Father. We don’t know why, but we can trust and when we trust in Him, that is when the blessings come. I have really been able to come closer to Christ through my personal study. It is precious time and being able to search the scriptures is a pleasure!! It is nice to be able to understand things more fully as I read the scriptures, and then apply them to my life.

The area I’m serving in right now is a bit interesting with a lot of churches and lots of missionaries of other faiths around, and to me, they are a bit pushy and give no room for understanding. They just push their doctine on us... One this morning came to our house proselyting and talked about how Heavenly Mother is in Korea. Slightly confused..but we’re working with it and trying to gain relationships with people.

This week we had a relief society activity and we did Korean sign language! Fun, but kinda hard. I looked like a fool up there! That’s all I have this week. It’s fun trying to get to know the members of our ward when I can’t really understand what they’re saying back to my questions! hahaha its going great :)))

"worth every sacrifice"

Happy st patricks day!!

They don’t celebrate over here.. I gave my companion a pot o gold, but.. it was kinda weird... anyways... this week has been great. Our investigator is trying to stop drinking coffee and she’s so willing to do the right thing. She wants us to visit her at work every day because she loves seeing us and we stop by occasionally to see how she’s doing.

It was my companions birthday this week so we went to a sushi restaurant.. I ate some scary things. And my companion loves dog meat.. :( poor pet!!! but I haven’t eaten it so it’s all ok :)

Last night, we ate dinner at a members house and she invited some teenagers over who are orphans and they were such great people! Really sweet and ready to have fun! haha I was able to practice teaching a lesson to one of them and it was super fun and it didn’t feel like I was practicing at all, I really gave a lesson to her, and she wants to do it again! I will \give the second lesson next time!!  Missionary work doesn’t have to be hard, it can be soo fun if you make it fun. Yeah there are some hard times, like trying to talk to people on the street for hours and your feet hurt and people don’t want to talk to us cause we’re weird... but there are so many creative ways we can share the gospel that makes it such an enjoyable experience. Bringing people to sports activities! woo love sports.  Last week we played basketball and the week before we played soccer with some new members and investigators. Super fun and it helps people realize we are normal people!! If people only give us a chance! Haha.

This morning I was reading in Wilford Woodruffs teachings and it talks about how people will hear the gospel in the afterlife if they weren’t able to receive that teaching on earth. And then I thought about who is going to be doing that teaching, (us); The people who know and live this gospel. What an important role we play in teaching the gospel. And then I thought about how important it is to start practicing now, to start teaching people what we know to be true. We need to remember to be everyday missionaries because we are here on the earth practicing what we are doing after this life! Brad Wilcox said, "we are not earning heaven, we are learning heaven" It’s easier to gain experience on the earth while we have the time, so why not start now so it won’t be as difficult for us if we hadn’t done it before? Missionary work is life, being an everyday missionary is a blessing and is "worth every sacrifice"(w. woodruff) Not just for people on the earth but also for our family that has passed on. It’s everywhere! It’s easier said than done.. But maybe just starting out with being a good example and example of Christ and then go from there, working with the missionaries is the next best thing I think! ahaha its easier saying all this while I’m a missionary because I’m not bombarded with the craziness of work and school and other things, but I hope that when I return home, I will be able to be an everyday missionary and do my best to help others receive the blessings I have received because of Christ and His gospel.

I love you and I hope everything is going well back home :)

I love it now! hehee you guys should try it!!! yikes!

Hello!!!

So this week was the big 20!! haha I don’t feel old at all!  Actually I got
younger! Here in Korea when you’re born, you’re 1 year old and then everyone on New Year’s changes their age no matter what month they were born in.  So ever since January, I’ve been telling people I’m 21! what what!! hahaha this whole time I’ve been 19 and I totally forgot! So kinda cool and fun experience.
On my birthday we taught a lesson to a lady who we started teaching last week. I was stressed beforehand because it was a big lesson about baptism and trying to teach through the scriptures. It is soo much better to teach through the scriptures, explaining a principle through a story in the Book of Mormon. It was fun! We used 3 Nephi 11 and explained the priesthood and the authority to baptize! And because we used that scripture, we explained to her that Christ came to America and visited the people and we talked about apostasy and prophets

and the Holy Ghost all with this one chapter.. It was heavy material... but, because we taught through the scriptures, she totally understood everything! and was super accepting of the message and she said she knew Christ loved everyone, so why he didn’t visit other areas was confusing to her, but we taught her this and she really enjoyed it! ahhh it was such a good lesson and afterwards I was sooo happy! ahh best birthday gift I could ever receive! Then my companion bought me a lil cake and we celebrated!
Yesterday, we were walking around trying to talk to people on the street, and we saw some trash in the street that cars were running over.. so I thought, "hey, we are serving missionaries right??" so we decided to pick up the styrofoam in the street!! haha kind of a fun adventure!  It was a little outside the crosswalk so not too dangerous.. ... and korea is safe so no harm!! I did have to do some running to get the trash, idk it was fun!!!  We felt good making Korea a little cleaner ;) and we talked to a lot of people because of it so it was a win win situation.  We helped make missionaries have a good reputation!! yayy. Anyways.. thank you for your happy wishes this week! love you!!

i put some kiwi in the nice members pocket who helped fix our bathroom
p.s. oh ya!  Our bathtub/shower started flooding on Wednesday so we had to get if fixed and it was kinda freeky!  The water wouldn’t turn on and then all of a sudden it turned on and it wouldn’t stop! So we turned our

water off and, the next morning we had to go to the public bath!!! hahaha it was great! I love it now! hehee you guys should try it!!! yikes! haha it was a nice pre birthday gift ;)

When we have faith, we see

Hi momma and pappa!

How are you?? This week was kind of slow with not having too many lessons, and just trying to proselyte on the street, its hard trying to find people who want to hear our message in this area because everywhere we look there’s so many churches. And everyone is kind of tired of people trying to get people to come to their church. But our message is different!! We have the Book of Mormon, Revelation! But people think we’re crazy, which we are. Crazy with love for others! At first it wasn’t too hard trying to talk to people because I didn’t really know what they were saying, I  just said all that I knew and thought they liked what I said... but now that I’m kind of understanding, ahh its so discouraging. These people are very straight forward with their thoughts and aren’t afraid to say it!! But my companion is very sweet and keeps me motivated to not give up. We can’t get discouraged even though one person rejected us because there are so many others that want to hear what we have to say!
We were teaching a girl named Hana and we were talking about faith and I shared a scripture in Ether and we talked about what it meant or how she felt about it. I started saying, "when we have faith".. and she replied, "then we see". When she said that, it was just so simple and so profound.  I don’t know maybe I’m just weird but it totally is true. I thought of the story of the Brother of Jared and how he had faith that the Lord could make the stones bright and because he had that faith, he SAW. I loved that. When we have faith, we see. When we trust in the Lord and have faith, we see what He needs us to do; he shows us the path we need to take. As a missionary he puts in my mind what I need to say, where I need to go, he shows me so many things in so many ways.  It’s a blessing and its all about our faith and putting trust in our faith, knowing that he will show us what we need to see. I was reading this morning Wilford Woodruffs divine book and it talks about reading the scriptures with the same spirit that was used to write them or create them. I’m trying to be better at studying the scriptures better so that I can have that same spirit so when I read and study, the Lord will show me what I need to learn and ponder about and understand.  It’s a process...but I’m working at it :)) love you
